Welcome

Welcome to the first post of the Fako & Associates, Inc. blog. This blog is intended to disseminate information and create a dialogue about current issues affecting local, state, and national politics. There will not be any disclosure of polling results or client related information on this forum.

A Recent Success:

Secondhand smoke is a serious public health concern. Every year thousands suffer from premature deaths due to secondhand smoke (SHS) or passive smoke.

The Environmental Protection Agency classified secondhand smoke as a Group A carcinogen. There is sufficient evidence that it causes cancer. SHS has also been classified as a "known human carcinogen" by the US National Toxicology Program.

Secondhand smoke contains over 4,000 chemical compounds! More than 60 of these are known or suspected to cause cancer.

Fako & Associates, Inc. has successfully developed strategies that lead to the passing of Chicago’s city-wide public smoking ban.

We are looking to expand on our earlier efforts that pass the Illinois House Bill 672 (August 10, 2005). Illinois HB 672 repealed preemption and returned control to local levels by allowing municipalities to enact stricter smokefree air laws.

We are very happy with the result of the Chicago Smoke Free effort. Hopefully all of Illinois will someday have smoke-free indoor air. Now Chicago, the Second City of many titles, can scratch one off it's list: “The Ashtray of America”
